Guide to Meeting Toy Story Characters at Disney World
From parades, themed rides, and Toy Story Land, fans will be delighted to be immersed in the themed world of Toy Story. Let’s take a look at all of the Toy Story themed characters that you can see and meet at Disney World.
What Toy Story Characters Can You See at Disney World?
There are only a few Toy Story specific meet and greets at Disney World. Yet there are still plenty of opportunities to see some amazing statues, animatronics and some of your favorite characters on themed rides and even at a hotel at the Walt Disney World Resort.
Magic Kingdom
At the Magic Kingdom you can see some of your favorite Toy Story characters on one ride in Tomorrowland and in parades and cavalcades.
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin – This is is an interactive laser gun shooting dark ride in Tomorrowland. Buzz Lightyear recruits space rangers in a mission to defeat the evil Emperor Zurg by piloting their own space cruiser equipped with laser blasters.
There is a really cool animatronic Buzz Lightyear in the queue, and at the end of the ride is a large Emperor Zurg statue to take pictures with.
Disney’s Adventure Friends Calvacade – This cavalcade is a mini parade featuring some unique characters from your favorite adventure movies including Woody and Jessie.
Mickey’s Once Upon A Christmastime Parade – During Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party there is a special Christmas themed Toy Story themed float with various Toy Story characters.
Hollywood Studios
Disney’s Hollywood Studios is home to Toy Story Land where guests are shrunken down to the size of a toy in Andy’s backyard. There are some amazing new attractions that have been added and there are so many characters and animatronics from the films.
Toy Story Mania! – This fan favorite was the first Toy Story ride at Hollywood studios featuring many character in the game. There are no height restrictions, so the entire family can enjoy this fun arcade style ride together while wearing 3 D glasses.
As you walk through the queue you will see a giant Mr. Potato Head animatronic, classic toys and board games from Andy’s room including: Candyland, Lincoln Logs, Tinker Toys, and a Barrel of Monkeys.
Slinky Dog Dash – This family roller coaster is themed around the character Slinky Dog from Toy Story, where guests board a coaster that that looks just like slinky dog!
You will see Jessie and Rex at the top of the roller coaster. Wheezy the penguin from Toy Story 2 makes an appearance at the end of the ride singing “You’ve Got a Friend in Me”.
Alien Swirling Saucers – Board an intergalactic spinning ride that features the adorable green aliens from the Toy Story movies.
Green Army Men – These interactive characters are based on the toy soldiers from Toy Story. They roam Toy Story Land, performing entertaining drills, engaging with guests, and posing for photos. They march around the land leading different activities and playing instruments and are a lot of fun to interact with.
Disney’s All Stars Movie Resort
All Stars Movie Resort is a fun and vibrant value resort that is perfect for families with children. There are some amazing movie themed areas throughout the resort, including a Toy Story themed courtyard areas in buildings 9 and 10.
Here you can walk by a giant buzz lightyear that is over 3 stories tall, as well as a giant Woody statue. You will also see a large Rex statue, green army men, and Bo Peep!
What Toy Story Characters Can You Meet at Disney World?
There are only two parks in Disney World that have Toy Story themed rides and character meet and greets.
Magic Kingdom
Magic Kingdom used to have Toy Story meet and greets and activities in Frontierland, but those closed with the opening of Toy Story Land. The only Toy Story character that you can meet here currently is Buzz Lightyear.
Star Command Outpost – Meet Buzz Lightyear at the Star Command Outpost in Tomorrowland, right next door to Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. This is a cute themed character meet where you can get photos and autographs with Buzz Lightyear.
Hollywood Studios
Disney’s Hollywood Studios is home to Toy Story Land where you can meet some of the toys and characters from the films.
- Buzz Lightyear – Buzz Lightyear meets at the entrance of Toy Story Land across from the large Woody statue off to the side. This is an outdoor meeting location.
- Sheriff Woody and Jessie – You can meet Woody and Jessie together near the entrance of Toy Story Mania. This is also an outdoor meeting location.
- Bo Peep – Bo Peep does not always meet, but if you are lucky you can find her meeting with Jessie outside of Toy Story Mania.
- Green Army Men – These are roaming characters, that may stop and interact with you and pose for a quick photo.
Toy Story Themed Dining
There is no Toy Story character dining at Disney World, however there are some really fun Toy Story themed restaurants for Toy Story fans to enjoy.
Woody’s Lunch Box
Woody’s Lunch Box is located next to Toy Story Mania. This quick service restaurant looks like Andy’s Woody themed lunch box turned on its side.
This restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. They have breakfast bowls, hot and cold sandwiches, my favorite being the brisket grilled cheese, totchos, floats and homemade lunch box tarts.
Round Up Rodeo BBQ
Round Up Rodeo BBQ is an all you can eat, interactive barbecue table service restaurant right at the entrance of Toy Story Land. You will be surrounded by Andy’s rodeo at play with themed western towns and train station playsets.
Here you can see images of popular characters, including a huge display of Jessie riding on the back of a Trixie pull toy, and a Bo Peep statue with her sheep ready to perform in the rodeo.
Where is Toy Story Land?
Toy Story Land is located in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This land is located in the southwestern corner of the park, and sits next to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. You can find it by heading towards the end of Sunset Boulevard and then following the signs that will lead you into the colorful, toy-themed area that brings the Toy Story films to life.
Tips for Meeting Toy Story Characters at Disney World
- Check the My Disney Experience app for appearance times and show up 15-30 minutes before the first meet and greet begins.
- Bring snacks and water for waiting in lines. The lines can get long, and Toy Story Land does not have a lot of shade and it can get brutal in the heat of the day.
- Ask the characters unique questions directly related to their scenes in the movies.
- Bring a sharpie or thick pen, and an autograph book to get signatures.
- Don’t be afraid to ask cast members to take your photos if you don’t have the photo pass they are happy to take them for you with your phone or camera.
