Everything You Need to Know About the Disney Skyliner

The Disney Skyliner has been one of the most exciting developments within the resort in the past few years. Since its opening in September 2019, it has helped connect many of the Walt Disney World resorts with the theme parks, offering another great transportation option for your next trip. Let’s take a look at the routes on offer and how it can help you to get around the parks.

What is the Disney Skyliner?

The Disney Skyliner is a gondola system connecting five different stations located within the resorts and theme parks. Each gondola cabin can hold ten guests at a time, but this drops to six if a wheelchair or stroller is added. Inside the gondola, there are two wooden benches, so it’s a fun and comfortable new addition to the resort. The Disney Skyliner is based in the Epcot and Hollywood Studios area of the resort and connects many of the resorts in this area. Value, Moderate, and Deluxe resorts all benefit from this service, and it’s soon becoming a reason for families to book a certain resort over other options.

The Disney Skyliner Routes

The central station for the Disney Skyliner is based at Caribbean Beach Resort. From there, you can opt to take three different lines, which will take you to your final destination.

Skyliner route

The Epcot Line

The longest of the three Disney Skyliner lines is the Epcot line. It leaves from the Caribbean Beach station and then heads over the resort to the Riviera Resort, where guests are dropped off and picked up. If you are staying at Caribbean Beach, you may want to consider joining at this stop, depending on where your room is located.

From here, you travel up in the sky above Buena Vista Drive and past the Boardwalk resort, before passing throughout the Epcot resorts and into World Showcase’s station. The gondola passes over the France pavilion before making its final landing. This whole route takes just 11 minutes. It’s just three minutes from Caribbean Beach to the Riviera Resort, and then six extra minutes on to Epcot. This is a lovely route if you are looking just to enjoy a ride on the Skyliner while admiring some great views of the resort. To enter Epcot, you’ll go through the World Showcase entrance, which arrives in between the France and United Kingdom pavilions.

Hollywood Studios Line

From the Caribbean Beach station, you’ll head west to Hollywood Studios. This line goes directly from the resort to the park before crossing over the parking lot of Hollywood Studios before landing at the entrance here. It’s just a five-minute journey from Caribbean Beach to Hollywood Studios, and you’ll arrive between where the buses stop, and the park entrance is.

Pop Century and Art of Animation Line

There’s also one short route that connects Pop Century and Art of Animation with Caribbean Beach. If you are staying at either of these resorts, you’ll need to always travel Caribbean Beach first and then change lines in order to get to the park you are visiting for the day. Make sure you keep this in mind so that you plan ahead and have enough time ready for your trip. This route takes just four minutes and heads over swampland and then the Art of Animation buildings before landing in the middle of Hourglass Lake. You’ll find that you can join the Disney Skyliner from the bridge in the middle of these two resorts, so both are very close to this transportation option.

Resorts Benefitting from the Disney Skyliner

Depending on your budget for your next trip, you’ll find many resorts are now benefitting from this service. If you are looking for a value resort, we highly recommend Pop Century or Art of Animation. Art of Animation offers family suites as well as standard rooms, which are very popular with larger families. Moving up to the moderate category, you can opt for Caribbean Beach, which is home to the Disney Skyliner hub and within walking distance of the Riviera Resort.

The deluxe resort category offers a few more options. The Riviera Resort is the newest resort in the area and is a stunning resort inspired by the magic of Europe and Walt Disney’s travels to this region. It’s a Disney Vacation Club resort that offers a wide selection of room types, including studios for couples. As the Disney Skyliner ends at the World Showcase entrance to Epcot, you’ll find that all of the Epcot area resorts are within walking distance of the Disney Skyliner here. The Yacht Club, Beach Club, Boardwalk, Swan, and Dolphin resorts can all benefit from this service. You still also have the option from these five resorts to walk to the parks or take the ferry if you prefer.

Making the Most of the Disney Skyliner on Your Next Trip

The Disney Skyliner is fast becoming one of the top transportation options in the resort. It’s well-themed and offers a unique view above the resort. Instead of sitting on crowded buses, you’ll find this efficient service usually helps you get to and from the parks much quicker than other options. One thing to keep in mind is the weather conditions when riding. If a storm is occurring during your visit, the Disney Skyliner will likely close temporarily. Another consideration is if any family members have a fear of heights, as this is probably something they’ll want to skip. It’s good to note that most of the resorts have another option for getting to Epcot or Disney’s Hollywood Studios, so you can opt for this if you prefer.

While you may experience a short wait at the start of the day and when the parks close, you’ll generally find this to be a very quick loading and efficient service. In the middle of the day, you’ll usually walk straight on to the Skyliner. Even if you don’t need to use this service for transportation purposes, it’s something you’ll have fun riding during your next trip. Take a quick break from the parks and head out to explore the resorts in the busiest part of the day with the Skyliner. Alternatively, for adults, you could enjoy bar hopping in the evening with the Skyliner, which makes for a unique evening out on your next trip.

If you are traveling with younger children, one thing they’ll love about the Skyliner is looking out for the different characters. They can try to see if they can ride on any of their favorite character’s gondolas or look out for them while they are high in the sky. The Skyliner has a very distinct design, which stands out from miles away and makes for a fun addition to the resort. When it comes to the Skyliner operating hours, these will vary depending on the time of your visit and the park hours. Check the hours at the stations to ensure you don’t miss the final Skyliner of the day.

Disney Skyliner is one of the best additions to the parks in the past few years, and it’s something we love to ride on each trip to Walt Disney World now. If you are staying at one of the resorts on the Skyliner route, you’ll love taking this transportation option to the parks on your next visit. It’s a very quick and efficient service that makes traveling to the parks more fun than it is when using the buses. Even if you don’t need to use the service, we recommend you take a trip on the Skyliner on your next vacation, as it will give you a fun day out and a chance to explore other Disney resorts.
