One of the most iconic foods Walt Disney World is known for is its delicious Giant Turkey Legs. The Turkey Legs are one of the most popular snack options Disney World has, including Mickey Ice Cream, Popcorn, Dole Whip, and a Mickey Pretzel.

But over the years, there have been many rumors and urban legends about the famous smoked Turkey Legs. Here are some quick facts to debunk many of the rumors you may have heard about the mouth-watering Disney World Turkey Legs.

Enjoying a fresh Turkey Leg in Liberty Square Market in Magic Kingdom

When spending the day at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, you will be able to smell Disney’s Jumbo Turkey Legs throughout the park. Magic Kingdom currently offers four different locations you can buy Turkey Legs.

Over the years, the location Turkey Legs are sold has changed many times.  In the past, Magic Kingdom had a dedicated Turkey Leg Cart in Frontierland, but that is no longer available. Tortuga Tavern also sold Turkey Legs, but they are currently not on their menu.

So, where can you find those mouthwatering Turkey Legs at Disney’s Magic Kingdom? Here are the four locations that currently have Turkey Legs on their menu in Magic Kingdom.

  • Liberty Square Market

Liberty Square Market is a quick-service location between Liberty Square Riverboat and The Hall of Presidents. Liberty Square Market serves Jumbo Turkey Legs after 11:00 am.

  • Prince Eric’s Village Market

Head over to Fantasyland, and you can grab a Turkey Leg at Prince Eric’s Village Market. Prince Eric’s Village Market is located across from Under the Sea- Journey of The Little Mermaid and Ariel’s Grotto.

  • Gaston’s Tavern

You will find Gaston’s Tavern at the end of Fantasyland going into Adventureland. Here they sell Turkey Legs with a side of chips. Craving something sweet to go along with your Turkey Leg? Gaston’s Tavern is well known for its large Cinnamon Rolls. They are big enough to share!

  • Sleepy Hollow

Sleepy Hollow Refreshments, located at the beginning of Adventureland, across from Cinderella’s Castle, temporarily serves Turkey Legs after 7:00 pm. Stop here and grab a Turkey Leg before watching the Fireworks show if you want a Turkey Leg at the end of your night!

Where Can You Find Turkey Legs at EPCOT?

If you find yourself inside the Disney’s Experimental Prototype City of Tomorrow (EPCOT) craving one of these giant smokey turkey legs, have no fear! You won’t have to take the Monorail back to Magic Kingdom to find them. You can find them on the loop of World Showcase, inside the American Pavilion

Where can you find Turkey Legs at Disney Springs?

If you don’t have park tickets and you want to find this delicious Disney snack you are in luck. The Smokehouse at House of Blues in Disney Springs has turkey legs.

The Smokehouse at House of Blues is right next to Cirque du Soleil in Disney Springs. This is a quick service location so you will not need to make a reservation. Check out their menu on the My Disney Experience App.

Are the Turkey Legs at Disney Really Turkey?

For years, there have been rumors that the Turkey Legs at Disney do not really come from Turkey. The most popular rumor has been that the Turkey Legs are Emu legs, that’s why they are so big.

There have been many rumors over the years, including Turkey Legs are also Ostrich legs, and Disney Turkey Legs are made of Ham. Despite what the tale says, Turkey Legs are made of Turkey.

Another snack to consider if you’re looking for another famous snack at Disney World, consider one of the pickles in Disney World at Liberty Square Market. A turkey leg and a pickle make a great snack together!

Why are Disney Turkey Legs So Big?

These turkey legs are gigantic! They weigh over 1.5 pounds of turkey deliciousness!

The Turkey Legs at Disney are enormous. Disney Giant Turkey Legs weigh in at a whopping 1.5 pounds each! The short answer to why Disney Turkey Legs are so big is that they come from male turkeys, which are significantly bigger than female turkeys.

The typical turkeys we see on Thanksgiving are female turkeys, and that is what most Disney fans compare the Disney Turkey Legs too. Many rumors have been that Disney Turkey Legs cannot be turkey because they are too big, but that is just not the case.

We see much smaller turkeys in grocery stores and on our tables for holidays, but those are typically female turkeys.

Why Do Disney Turkey Legs Taste, Like Ham?

When most guests bite into a Disney Turkey Leg for the first time, they expect the same taste as they would have to take a bite of a turkey for thanksgiving dinner. But when they bite into those Jumbo Turkey Legs, they taste more like ham.

This is because the Turkey Legs are cured in a salt solution, the same way ham is cured in a salt solution. Because the turkey leg is set in brine the same way a ham is, it has the same taste. Despite what others think, it is not because Turkey Legs are made of ham, it is because they are prepared the same way.

Do the Turkey Legs at Disney Taste Good?

Many guests travel to Disney World knowing exactly what foods they will eat when they get to the parks, and among the top treats at Disney is the famous Giant Turkey Leg. If you are traveling the Magic Kingdom and looking for a savory snack, the Turkey Leg is the way to go!

Not only do the Turkey Legs at Disney taste good, but they are full of protein also, perfect for fueling your day around the Disney Theme Parks.

When you buy a Turkey Leg at the Magic Kingdom, it comes wrapped in butcher food paper to help keep it nice and warm. The Turkey Leg is juicy and has a smoked flavor to it.

After taking your first bite, you will understand why people compare the Disney Turkey Legs to ham. It does have that salty, cured ham taste to it. The Disney Turkey Legs are a fantastic, mouthwatering meal that is great for any day at the Magic Kingdom!

How Much Is a Turkey Leg at Disney’s Magic Kingdom? (March 2024 Update)

The price you will pay for a Turkey Leg at the Magic Kingdom depends on which location you buy them from. In the past, the cheapest place to buy a Turkey Leg at the Magic Kingdom was at the Turkey Leg Food Cart at Frontierland.

That has closed, and now the only places you can purchase Turkey Legs are in Adventureland at Liberty Square Market and Fantasyland at Prince Eric’s Village Market and Gaston’s Tavern.

The iconic Disney Turkey Legs have increased in price recently and depending on where you buy them also matters. Prince Eric’s Village Market and Gaston’s Tavern sell Turkey Legs with a side of chips for $14.49.

Liberty Square Market and Sleepy Hollow have a better price at $12.49, but their Turkey Leg does not come with a side of chips. Something to be aware of, Liberty Square Market and Sleepy Hollow do not serve Turkey Legs all day, so make sure to check before you head to the park what their hours are.

The Fife & Drum Tavern at the American Adventure Pavilion inside EPCOT charges $13.25 for their Jumbo Turkey Leg.

Check out this review of a Turkey Leg from Fife & Drum Tavern in EPCOT.

So if you’re at Magic Kingdom, it pays to shop around, and I’d avoid being a turkey leg inside of EPCOT due to the upcharge.

Previously you could also get a turkey leg with a side of chips in Animal Kingdom. However, it does look like it’s been removed from the Yak and Yeti Quality Beverage menu.

Is a Turkey Leg a Healthy Option at Disney World?

Despite hearing Disney calories are magical and don’t count, we all know that is not the case. The  Disney Turkey Legs are no different. According to a 2013 New York Times article, the Jumbo Turkey Legs at Disney has 720 calories and 36 grams of fat and is loaded with sodium.

That is not the healthiest meal you could choose at the Magic Kingdom, but it is also not the unhealthiest. The Turkey Legs are full of protein, and if you are spending the day walking around the Disney Theme Parks, you will most likely burn off the calories from your Turkey Leg.

With an estimated 1.6 million Turkey Legs being sold throughout the Disney Parks each year, the Turkey Legs are an iconic snack for Disney lovers to enjoy when spending their day at the parks. First appearing at Magic Kingdom’s Big Al’s Coonskin Caps in Frontierland in the 1980s, Turkey Legs were a huge hit and have been ever since.
